Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg in 1833. His father, who was a jeweller, was unable to support him financially so he had to seek work as a baker. He had no interest in the violin, however after studying the piano and becoming a pupil of Ignaz Moscheles he decided to pursue a career as a composer.
